  • 2000-05 Cabo Dive Fiesta Contest Winners
We asked last years’ Dive Fiesta participants to submit photos taken during the Fiesta and to write a few words on “What Los Cabos Means to Me.” To our surprise almost every person who attended the Fiesta submitted an entry. The hard part was choosing the prize winners. And, while all the Skin Diver staff who attended the Fiesta enjoyed Cabo’s famous diving and hospitality, it was our true pleasure to meet and talk to our readers. We came away with a heightened appreciation for the people who loyally read our magazine—divers. People, like us, wet to the core.

A special thanks to all who submitted an entry. And now...the envelope please.

    What Cabo Means to Me
“The soft green of the desert landscape is contrasted with the brilliant blue water. The rocks have tumbled into the sea and are bordered by golden sand beaches. The weather is sunny, the people gentle and the fishing and diving exciting. One has the sense of being at the edge awesome place.”

    "Pacific Seahorse"
Second Prize: Three nights, four days at Hotel Pueblo Bonito Rose and round trip airfare from Continental Airlines
    What Cabo Means to Me
“The very first time I saw a seahorse...we were in the bay of Cabo San Lucas. It was...completely magical. I fell in love with Cabo then, as well as the beautiful, fragile seahorse. I [now] realize that coming back is like coming home. No aquarium could ever capture for me the beauty and surprise of the lovely Cabo San Lucas bay. So I shall keep coming back until one day, I simply stay.”

    Skin Diver Humanitarian Award
Mares Gear Awarded to Luis Madariaga for his sea turtle program for children (through Hotel Posada Real Los Cabos)
Luis: “It is fantastic to see the reactions of kids when they join us. Some children befriend their baby turtles immediately and are reluctant to release them back to the sea; others cry or shout words of encouragement as the tiny turtles scurry down the sand. But mostly, it’s a great feeling of satisfaction to instill in these children an appreciation for the circle of life, for they are tomorrow’s keepers of the sea.”

    Special Mention—Most Humorous

“My photo that best captures Cabo for me is one of my friend, Lin Bayford. Linny never takes his hat off, not even to dive....”
